The Stichting STEP Project Global Consortium (SPGC) in partnership with KPMG Private Enterprise has developed the 2020 Global Family Business Case report based on 37 family business cases collected during 2020. It provides a first-hand perspective on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the next generation of family business leaders, and practical guidance for continuing to build and sustain their businesses.
The experiences and insights of these family business leaders throughout the world are presented in a four-part series of articles that take a close look at the impact of changing demographics on family business succession, the role of women in family business, family governance systems, and the creation of enduring legacies. Stichting STEP Project Global Consortium (SPGC) – KPMG Private Enterprise Global Family Business Report: COVID-19 Edition
The Stichting STEP Project Global Consortium (SPGC) released its report in 2019 based on the Global Family Business Survey that included over 1800 family business leaders from 33 countries across 5 world regions (Europe & Central Asia, North America, Latin America, & the Caribbean, Asia & the Pacific, and the Middle East & Africa).
The report highlights that the increasing demographic and societal changes make the traditional methods of succession and governance unsuitable in this modern era resulting in 70% of family businesses globally not having a formal succession plan. Demographic cohorts of global family business leaders helps to shed light on how they are overseeing, understanding and managing such challenges within the family and firm structure and culture which is critical to the sustainability of the global family business model.
